What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?
Although both are from the same plant species called Cannabis, they are two very distinct plants that differ in genetics, cultivation, and chemical process. Hemp has very low levels of Delta-9 THC (defined as <0.3%), where marijuana can contain levels that exceed 20%. There are more than 125 different cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, CBD and Delta-9 THC being the most well known and researched. Other cannabinoids, such as CBN and CBG, have many benefits as well.
Are hemp products legal?
Thanks to the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, Hemp derived products that have a Delta-9 THC content of <0.3% are legal at the federal level in all 50 states. Individual states, however, have the jurisdiction to decide whether or not they want to legally allow hemp cannabis products with Delta (8, 9. 10, 11, etc.) THC content. All states allow CBD isolate, broad spectrum, and full spectrum (<0.3% THC). Some states also allow Delta 8, 10, 11, etc., products while some states have banned those products.
Can I become addicted to hemp products?
Because of the negligible concentration of THC, hemp-derived cannabis products aren't addictive. Additionally, cannabinoids such as CBD, CBN, CBG are not psychoactive and do not exhibit any effects to indicate abuse or dependence potential. There is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of hemp-derived cannabis.
Can you overdose on hemp products?
Regardless of the hemp product you're taking, the answer is no. Your body will metabolize hemp cannabinoids differently depending on the method used to ingest or apply. While this could change how long it takes to go into effect or how long the effects last, it won't change the toxicity. The biggest risk you likely run if taking a huge dose of CBD, for example, may be getting sleepy as CBD can have tranquilizing effects in large doses.
What exactly is CBD and what does it stand for?
CBD stands for Cannabidiol which is most commonly known as the "therapeutic compound" with no intoxicating properties. CBD is just one of the hundreds of cannabinoids in this amazing plant that act on the cannabinoid receptors (CB1,CB2) in our Endocannabinoid System.
What is the Endocannabinoid System?
In 1992, doctors and researchers discovered that we (and all living things) naturally produce neurotransmitters called endocannabinoids. This simply means that cannabis-like substances naturally occur inside us. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is made up of three parts:
Not only is the ECS a natural part of our bodies, it is also a crucial one. Through the CB1 & CB2 receptors, the ECS helps regulate a lot of important functions, such as:
When something is operating outside of the right range, your body activates the ECS to help correct it.
Will I get high if I take CBD?
CBD is non-psychoactive and will not impair the user or get them high.
Will CBD cause me to fail a drug test?
CBD Isolate or Broad Spectrum products do not contain THC and therefore, will not cause you to fail a drug test. Full Spectrum hemp derived products, on the other hand, do contain <0.3% THC which will not get you high but may cause you to fail a drug test. If you are concerned about drug testing, the safest thing to do is to purchase products with zero THC.
What is the difference in isolate, broad spectrum, full spectrum, & Delta's?
CBD isolate is 99% pure CBD, Broad Spectrum contains CBD and other cannabinoids without the THC, and Full Spectrum is full plant extract with all cannabinoids (including <0.3% THC) found in that plant. Delta 8, Delta 10, Delta 11, THC-O, THC-P, HHC, and other THC Delta's will give a psychoactive experience and will cause you to fail a drug test.
How do I know what I'm getting?
This is a great question! Make sure the person selling the product is knowledgeable and ask questions. Ask to see lab reports to verify that the product contains the desired cannabinoid and terpene content. A lab report will also verify the product is free of harmful contaminants like heavy metals, mold, pesticides and more. Also, products made by a reputable company will tell you how much cannabinoid you're getting right on the label. Look for either the concentration or the total number of milligrams in the bottle. You are taking cannabinoids for the health of your body, make sure it has nothing in it that will harm you and don't make a decision on a product because it's cheap.
Do hemp products have side effects?
Hemp products are recognized as being safe and should not produce side effects in most people. However, you should always check with your doctor before adding anything to your daily routine.
How are hemp products taken?
There are many ways to take hemp products. Methods of ingesting or applying are usually a personal preference.
How do I know what dose to take?
The product label identifies the amount of cannabinoids in the entire container. At Holistic Herb CBD we use a simple calculation based on the amount in the container, the size of the container, and your body weight to determine the recommended dosage amount. Generally, this recommended dosage is right on target for most people. However, hemp products affects different people differently so the daily dose can be adjusted to meet what your body needs if necessary.
